The world of sports offers compelling stories at every turn. None better than the Philadelphia Flyers and Montreal Canadians as they meet in the NHL Eastern Conference Finals. Who would have thought these teams, seeded 7 and 8 respectively, would meet to decide who will represent the conference in the Stanley Cup Finals?
The Canadians who vanquished Ovechkin and the president cup winning Washington Capitals in 7 games followed by the ousting of the defending Stanley Cup champions with Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburg Penguins also in 7. Many may say both of those teams are stacked with talent which goes to show you that talent alone does not win. Not in aruably the greatest tournament in sports.
The Flyers, making the playoffs on the final day of the season with a shootout win over the Rangers, defeated the New Jersey Devils in the opening round and then made history against the Boston Bruins in the semi-finals. Down 3 games to 0 they fight back to 3 - 3 triggered by the game 4 OT win. Losing their "starting" goalie in game 5. Down 3 - 0 in the first period of game 7 and they win.
In Philadelphia, it would seem that the frenzy surrounding the Phillies have been put on hold for a while as their neighbors across the parking lot at Wachovia Center continue their mystical journey. As a fan in any city, especially in the City of Brotherly Love, these times do not come around very often. The Flyers and Canadians both are writing incredible stories and fans cannot wait to turn to the next chapter, game 2 on Tuesday night.
